Derrick's Top Issues
Growing Limestone County. Serving District 3.
Limestone County is one of Alabama's fastest-growing communities. Derrick Gatlin believes our county can embrace that growth while protecting the quality of life that makes Limestone County special.
His priorities are straightforward: strong infrastructure, economic opportunity, public safety, and responsible leadership.
ROADS & INFRASTRUCTURE
Keeping District 3 Moving
Growth requires infrastructure that can keep up.
Derrick is committed to continuing investments in roads, bridges, drainage, and other critical infrastructure throughout District 3.
Recent road investments include:
-
57 miles paved and resurfaced in FY25-26
-
30 miles paved and resurfaced in FY24-25
-
16 miles paved and resurfaced in FY23-24
Derrick will continue working to address infrastructure needs and make sure taxpayer dollars are invested where they can have the greatest impact.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPEMENT
Bringing Jobs and Investment to Limestone County
Limestone County has become one of Alabama's leading destinations for economic development, and Derrick is proud to have helped bring major investment and new opportunities to our community.
From the $32.7 million Strata-G Solutions facility at Pryor Field to the $6 billion Eli Lilly investment, Limestone County is attracting businesses that create jobs and strengthen our local economy.
Derrick will continue supporting responsible economic development that creates opportunity for local families while maintaining the character of our communities.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Preparing Limestone County for the Jobs of Tomorrow
Economic development is only successful when our workforce is prepared to meet the demands of new and expanding industries.
Derrick was instrumental in helping open the new Athens-Limestone Career Center at Athens State University, strengthening workforce development opportunities in one of Alabama's fastest-growing regions.
He believes Limestone County should continue investing in education, career training, and partnerships that connect local workers with good-paying jobs.
PUBLIC SAFETY
A Lifetime of Service
Public safety isn't just an issue Derrick talks about — it has been a central part of his life for more than 30 years.
As a longtime volunteer firefighter and leader in the Limestone County volunteer fire service, Derrick understands the importance of supporting the men and women who protect our communities.
He will continue advocating for the resources, equipment, training, and infrastructure needed to keep Limestone County safe.
RESPONSIBLE GROWTH
Planning for Limestone County's Future
Limestone County is growing rapidly. Derrick believes that growth should be managed thoughtfully and responsibly.
That means planning for the roads, infrastructure, workforce, public safety, and community services that come with growth — while preserving the quality of life that makes District 3 a great place to call home.
Derrick Gatlin will continue working to make sure Limestone County's growth is an opportunity, not a burden, for the people who live here.
